September 30 – October 4, 2020

New Art Dealers Alliance: Chicago Gallery Open

North Polar Region, 2016, 43 1/2 x 55 inches, colored pencil and watercolor on paper

4th Ward Project Space is pleased to participate in the Chicago Gallery Open, presented by New Art Dealers Alliance. For this project, 4wps features False Colour, a suite of recent drawings by Carrie Gundersdorf.

Carrie Gundersdorf’s drawings explore dichotomies of the personal and universal, abstraction and observation, science and craft, and image and process. The title, False Colour, refers to the use of color as a tool to help visualize what the human eye cannot see; specifically, in this case, it refers to images of Saturn’s rings constructed from filters of visible, infrared, and ultraviolet light. Gundersdorf’s work uses images of natural phenomena as a starting point while embodying the process of drawing and looking.

Carrie Gundersdorf has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; Julius Caesar, Chicago, IL; Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago, IL, and Gahlberg Gallery at the College of Dupage, Glen Ellyn, IL. She has also participated in group exhibitions at 106 Green, Brooklyn, NY; Rare Gallery, NY, NY; Regina Rex, NY, NY; Marc Foxx Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; the Loyola Museum of Art, Chicago, IL; Kavi Gupta Gallery, Chicago, IL; and Western Exhibitions, Chicago, IL among others. Her work has been reviewed in Art Review, Artforum.com, Artnet, Art on Paper, Bad at Sports, Chicago Tribune, and Time Out Chicago. Gundersdorf was the recipient of the Artadia Award and the Bingham Fellowship from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She has a B.A. from Connecticut College and an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
